This blog concerns the topic of memoir writing. Wrote By Rote is another in a series of niche blogs that I have set up to accompany my main blog Tossing It Out. This blog is not intended to take the place of that blog. Memoir writing is a topic that interests me as well as being of interest to many of you. I hope that this blog will add something to that discussion.
I welcome and encourage anyone who wants to be a guest on this blog to contact me and let me know what you would like to write about and I will schedule a spot for you. For now this blog will post only on Saturdays. I will be discussing my views on how to write good memoir as well as telling some of my own stories.
My next post will go into more detail about the intent of this blog and some of my own background. For now I just want to open this blog up and get it on line to let people know it's here. I welcome any suggestions you may have. Thanks for reading, commenting, and becoming a follower.

A to Z Theme 2016
For my 2016 A to Z theme I used a meme that I ran across on the blog of Bridget Straub who first saw it on the blog of Paula Acton. This meme is a natural for me to use on my memoir blog. It's an A to Z concept and it's about me. No research and nothing complicated. I'm given twenty six questions or topics to discuss that are about me.
In April I kept my posts short and uncomplicated. In the midst of it all you might learn a few things about me that you didn't previously know.

I've been giving serious thought to this kind of writing. I'm in here, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Suze! I'd love for you to consider doing a guest post on this or the dream blog or both!

I'm following. Look forward to seeing what happens here!
ReplyDeleteWell a lot of my blogs are just that, snap-shots of my life.
ReplyDeleteWell you know my feelings on journaling. So, I think memoir writing is wonderful. I also think we should leave journals behind written in our actual handwriting.
ReplyDeleteJournaling Woman, How do you preserve the handwritten stuff? Where do you keep it all?
ReplyDeleteArlee, Likewise, do have any "back up" preservation (saved files, printed copies, etc.) of what you plan to blog here?
Kelly -- I'm looking forward to what happens here as well.
ReplyDeleteBish -- On Tossing It Out I frequently had snapshots of my life. I thought it could use a separate blog.
Teresa -- A hard copy of our journal is good. I don't know if it has to be in handwriting for those of us who don't handwrite so good. But something left behind that's not digital is good.
J.B. -- For now I will mostly wing it and write as I go, but I do have some a hard copy of my father's autobiography which I will eventually excerpt here. At one post a week it will be slow going. At first I will mostly be exploring the topic of memoir writing from my point of view and that of any guest posters who will be joining me here. Maybe eventually I'll decide I need more posting days.

I think the art of delving into memoir can definitely help fiction. As of yet, I have no plans for a memoir. Maybe if I get to Mars someday ... :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lee .. great thoughts here - and I'm sure I could come up with something .. I'm never very specific - just the way I am, but I deliver.
ReplyDeleteCheers for now .. this will be great for an anthology - good luck with it all .. Hilary

Good luck with your new blog! I look forward to visiting often.
ReplyDeleteMary -- I don't think you'd have to wait to get to Mars. I'm sure you have plenty of interesting things to tell about your life.
ReplyDeleteHilary - Whenever you're ready I've got space here for your memories. Let me know and if you don't then perhaps I'll be calling on you.

Hi Lee .. many thanks - I'll be pondering it as I start a few new things here which will allow me to spread my wings.
ReplyDeleteCheers - Hilary
I have no plans to write a memoir, but I enjoy reading them, and biographies. So I'll tag along.
