A to Z Theme 2016

For my 2016 A to Z theme I used a meme that I ran across on the blog of Bridget Straub who first saw it on the blog of Paula Acton. This meme is a natural for me to use on my memoir blog. It's an A to Z concept and it's about me. No research and nothing complicated. I'm given twenty six questions or topics to discuss that are about me.

In April I kept my posts short and uncomplicated. In the midst of it all you might learn a few things about me that you didn't previously know.

Born in the Shadow of the Computer (Part 3)

In the guts of the computer when you open it it you'll see intricate boards with wires, circuits, and all sorts of little thingie doodads that the non-technical mind like I have does not comprehend too well.  What I do see is a metaphor for life.  Those circuits with all of the parallels and intersections all working together to serve my needs are like the history of where I've been, who I am now, and where I am going in the days and years ahead.  We are all like circuits on the great motherboard of existence.

And this preceding paragraph exhibits why a post that was intended to be a one installment of biding time has turned into part three and will continue on into May since my computer problems persist and I don't know what I'm doing and I don't have the money at the present time to invest in professional computer repairs.  Add to that, I'm a bit stubborn sometimes.   I'm going to fix this.

But not today I suppose.  I won't even finish this story today.  Consider this a sort of intermission, or a prelude perhaps to the story to come.  This is not even what I'd planned on writing today, but life is often like that as well isn't it?  We intend in going one direction and then get distracted to go another route.

One story leads to another and that is the story of life--yours, mine, ours, and everyone who was and will be.  Our stories sometimes intersect or often run in parallel paths.  Here in this cyberspace world we find others we would have more than likely never encountered in the local world of where we typically are.  It's kind of wonderful really, but that does not discount the life that is ours immediate to the senses.

I am biding time, sure, but don't we all in many ways.  We are all living in the shadow of the computer.  Sometimes a curse, sometimes a blessing--there is no escaping the computers that are all around us and essentially run our lives.  How did we get here?

If all goes like I hope, next week's post will be my introduction to my A to Z Challenge theme.  Then during the month of April I will hopefully post for 26 days upon that stated theme.  At least that is my intent.

We know how intents can go.  And that is where this story is going.  In May I intend to pick up again on my story of being Born in the Shadow of the Computer as I look at the ironies of my encounter with computers in the 1990's.  One simple start of a story a couple posts ago becomes three posts and in turn becomes who knows how many more.  The story will probably not end for me until my life ends.   The computers are here to stay.  At least for a while.

  1. I don't know a lot about what I am doing when it comes to computers but I actually do like gaining experience and information. About five years ago, i got a job with the Apple store in Santa Rosa - solely to learn more about Apple computers. I was one of those customer service people who greet you at the entrance of the store and then send you on your way. I loved being able to drink up so much info and the other employees were so interesting and enjoyable . Thing is, I had a real job - intense, full time, and decent salary and benefits - it became too much to work both jobs, Bye Bye Apple...
and your comment about life: We intend in going one direction and then get distracted to go another route. Isn't that the truth! Somehow it all turns into an interesting story though.
Looking forward to your stories about life with computers - theater to heater business and then some computer influence in the 90's?

  3. I like that phrase, in the shadow of the computer. I'm good with software, but haven't tried actually building a computer...
Love the Tetris image below! That's one of my favourite procrastination methods...

  4. Dear Lee, I so understand the varied motifs that rose to the surface in this posting. I, too, come to the computer meaning to write one thing each Wednesday or Sunday and end up writing something else. I, too, find that my mind, with all its circuitry, can no longer do some of the thinking and figuring it did years ago. I, too, wander the paths of possibilities.

I've been away from blogging for several weeks, and I'm glad to be back and muse with you. I look forward to your A-Z postings. What is your theme this year??? Peace.

  6. Gracie-- I like getting educated about things, but sometimes I can be a slow learner. I had a similar job experience as yours and will be telling about it in May.

JoJo -- I know what you mean, but I'm starting to get more comfortable even though I still don't know much about what I'm doing.

Deniz -- When you think of it, we of this age are all in the shadow of the computer and in some ways in the threat of being taken over.

Dee -- Glad to see you back here. I will announce my intended A to Z theme in my next post.

Pam -- Are you still on a Apple? Many Apple owners are fanatic about them and disdain other types.

  8. That was indeed a most excellent piece, and it goes along with what our Heavenly Father has personally revealed to me about one of the main reasons why this world (the real one--not a computerized simulation) was created. For He could have just as easily created us to spend all of eternity with Him in His Kingdom of Heaven from the very beginning, but aside from wanting us to freely want to be one His children by faith--despite of all the apparent reasons for why it would make more sense to believe that He doesn't even exist, He wanted us to get a taste of what He was willing to endure to accomplish His purposes. For He keeps hanging in there with me--despite all of the times I have actually told Him to take His master plan and stick it. Now, if that is not proving Himself worthy of receiving all of me, I don't know what else He could do. Of course, His daily endurance of my selfishness is on top of Him sending a full and equal part of Himself to pay the price in full for my sins.

  9. I'm pretty stubborn too, but not when it comes to fixing computers like you're talking here. You're a braver soul than I'll ever be, and I'm glad you figured everything out and zoomed your way through the A - Z :)
